How many lessons will I need before I can pass?
The DVSA average is around 45 hours of professional tuition plus 20 hours of private practice. Most of my pupils sit somewhere between 30 and 50 hours total, depending on how often they get behind the wheel and whether they practise outside lessons. I'll give you an honest view of where you are after the first 2-3 lessons.
Do you teach manual or automatic?
I teach manual in the Hyundai Kona and Automatic in the Volkswagen T-Roc. Beware that if you pass in an automatic, your license only covers automatics. A manual licence covers both.
What areas do you cover?
City of Edinburgh, Midlothian, and West Lothian. Pickup and drop-off from home, work, college, or university is included as long as you're in the covered area.
Which test centre will I use?
Edinburgh learners usually sit at Currie or Musselburgh. We'll spend lessons covering routes and roundabouts around your test centre in the weeks before the test, so nothing on the day is a surprise.

Booking and how it worksHow do I book my first lesson? Phone or text Chris on 07709 546 917, or fill in the enquiry form. He'll usually get back to you within 24 hours with availability.
What happens on the first lesson? We'll meet near your home, go through your licence, and have a quick chat about any driving you've done before. Most first lessons are spent in a quieter area getting used to the controls: clutch, gears, steering, mirrors. You'll be driving by the end of it. Do I need a provisional license before my first lesson? Yes. You need your provisional license with you on every lesson — it's a legal requirement. Apply at gov.uk; it takes about a week and costs £34. How do I pay? Bank transfer paid in advance. |
About the lessons
I'm a nervous driver — is that a problem?
Not at all. A lot of pupils come to me having tried before, or after a few years off the road. The first lesson is at your pace, somewhere quiet, and we build up from there. I already passed but haven't driven in years. Can you help? Yes. Refresher lessons are the same hourly rate. Most people need 4-10 hours to get their confidence back. Worth doing before your first long drive or motorway trip rather than discovering you're rusty on the M8. Do you do intensive courses? Yes, please get in touch for more information! Can I learn in my own car? For insurance reasons you must use one of the Macleod Driving School cars. |

I'll point you towards the right apps and books, and we'll cover Show Me / Tell Me questions during lessons. The theory itself you sit at a Pearson test centre — I don't run mock theory tests. |
